Brian Jackson
Brian is a chartered engineer and holds an MSc in hydrology (summa cum laude). He is a water resources manager and hydrologist with 25 years of experience in implementing integrated water resources management.
Brian moved to Australia in January 2017 and is responsible for the HydroNET platform across Australia. He led the projects to develop the HydroNET Water Control Room and Flood Portal for Melbourne Water and the Goulburn Broken CMA; as well as the HydroNET RainWatch application for Queensland Urban Utilities.
Further to this, Brian has also led several other HydroNET projects across Australia and was involved with HydroNET as a client for 5 years before that.
Brian was at the forefront of implementing the new and internationally respected water act of South Africa since its promulgation in 1998 through his employment at both the national Department of Water Affairs and the first Catchment Management Agency established in South Africa.
He oversaw the development of the first ever Catchment Management Strategy in South Africa and also implemented an innovative adaptive real time operational water resources management framework for river operating rules based on adaptive management principles and the integration of data, computer modelling, governance/Institutions and stakeholder centered consensus driven decision making (i.e. the integration of both technical and social sciences).
Brian has experience as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the first ever Catchment Management Agency to be established in South Africa. With his wide experiences in a CMA, he clearly understands the requirements of the users and is able to provide as much local support as needed.
