Peter A Vanrolleghem
Peter Vanrolleghem obtained his degrees in Bio-engineering and PhD in Environmental Technologies from Ghent University (Belgium) and in 1997 became there a professor in bioprocess modelling and control in a wide range of application areas (food, agriculture, wastewater treatment).
In 2006 he immigrated in Quebec as holder of the Canada Research Chair on Water Quality Modelling. He is full professor at Université Laval’s Civil and Water Engineering Department and his multi-cultural research team, modelEAU, now consists of 3 postdocs, 2 research assistants, 10 PhD students and 5 MSc students. His research focuses on urban wastewater systems and tackles challenges such as nutrient (removal and recovery), fate of micropollutants and emissions of greenhouse gases, by developing and using mathematical models, automated monitoring stations, process control and in-house pilot- and full-scale experimental work.
He is very active in the Water Environment Federation and the International Water Association. Until recently, he was Member of WEF’s Board of Trustees. After a first term in 2012-2016, he is now again member of IWA’s Board of Directors. In the province of Québec he is director of the multi-disciplinary Water Management Research Center, CentrEau.
